Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Indonesian police on Wednesday returned the identified remains of an ATR 42-500 crash victim to her family for burial in Jakarta.

The victim was confirmed as Florencia Lolita Wibisono, 33, a flight attendant with Indonesia Air Transport.

Her body was recovered from Mount Bulusaraung, South Sulawesi, following the fatal crash.

Her brother, Felix, expressed gratitude to search teams, police, the military, and aviation authorities for their efforts.

“We are grateful for all that has been done so our sister could be found and returned to us,” he told reporters, accompanied by another sibling.

The family said they were relieved the identification process had concluded, allowing the coffin to be sealed and prepared for transport to Jakarta.

Felix added that they were praying for other victims to be found swiftly and for their families to be given strength.

Police confirmed the remains, labeled post-mortem number 62B.01, matched ante-mortem data AM004, verifying Florencia’s identity.

Family members witnessed the handover at the police disaster victim identification (DVI) unit, visibly emotional as the coffin was prepared.

After the ceremony, the coffin was held at the DVI post before being flown from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport to Jakarta on Wednesday evening.

Authorities said only two bodies have been recovered so far from the aircraft, which was carrying 10 people when it crashed. The second victim, a male, has not yet been identified.

Senior Commissioner Muhamad Haris, head of South Sulawesi police medical services, explained that Florencia’s identification was based on fingerprints, dental records, personal belongings, and medical characteristics, with examinations conducted jointly by national and regional police teams, forensic experts, and Hasanuddin University specialists.
