Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said his ministry is prioritizing efforts to keep transportation connectivity in Sumatra functional following floods and landslides that struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

“Our main focus is ensuring that connectivity is maintained to support the distribution of logistics,” Purwagandhi said during a meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He said that, in line with directives from President Prabowo Subianto, all government agencies have been instructed to maximize resource mobilization for disaster response efforts in Sumatra.

In this context, the Ministry of Transportation is responsible for addressing transportation infrastructure through the repair, improvement, and reconstruction of affected facilities and services.

Purwagandhi explained that during the emergency response phase, the ministry has taken several measures to maintain connectivity, including surveying road equipment, restoring transportation services to remote areas, and repairing passenger service facilities.

Logistics distribution has also been supported through sea, air, and rail transportation. These measures include implementing a zero-rupiah fare under the sea toll program and providing port service discounts for vessels carrying humanitarian aid.

In addition, the ministry has deployed transportation cadets to assist relief efforts on the ground, with 146 cadets assigned in Aceh, 143 in North Sumatra, and 177 in West Sumatra.

To strengthen disaster response in affected areas, technical implementation units and transportation hubs for land, sea, air, and rail services have also been mobilized across the three provinces hit by floods and landslides in late November 2025.

A total of 19 aircraft, consisting of 12 airplanes and seven helicopters, have been stationed at seven airports in disaster-affected areas across Sumatra to support emergency response operations and ensure the smooth distribution of aid.

Ministry data showed that the disasters damaged several transportation facilities, including three type A terminals and one type B terminal in Aceh, one type A terminal in North Sumatra, and one type A terminal in West Sumatra, as well as sections of railway lines.
