Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti, in a written statement here on Friday, said the inauguration reflects the government's commitment to restoring post-disaster education services and ensuring schools serve as safe and adequate learning spaces.
He added that the step is also part of a national effort to accelerate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of disaster-affected education units, which is targeted to be completed gradually by 2026.
“Schools must again become safe and comfortable places to learn. Therefore, revitalization does not only target physical buildings, but also ensures the continuity of education services,” Mu'ti said.
The impact of the revitalization program has been strongly felt by many schools, as expressed by the principal of special public school SLB Negeri Silih Nara Angkup in Takengon, Yusbida, and the principal of public high school SMAN 1 Timang Gajah in Bener Meriah, Marhamah.
According to them, prior to the revitalization program, their schools faced limitations and damaged facilities that directly affected the learning process.
Through the revitalization program, the two schools now have more proper, safe, and functional learning spaces and supporting facilities.
Both said the revitalized schools have made the learning process more optimal and enabled students to study more comfortably.
Marhamah said that due to the disaster, the school prayer facility and science laboratory had been damaged and could not be utilized.
“I express my appreciation and gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto and the minister for the government's attention and support in rehabilitating schools, as the benefits are felt tangibly,” Marhamah said.
