Bantul, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Health Benjamin Paulus Octavianus on Friday reviewed the implementation of free health checks and community-based tuberculosis (TB) screening for employees at a cigarette factory in Bantul, Yogyakarta.

Octavianus said President Prabowo has eight quick-win flagship programs in addition to routine initiatives. Of these, two are in the health sector: the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and the Free Health Check-up (CKG) program for the public.

“This is the CKG and TB eradication effort that we are carrying out here today. Why is CKG conducted? Because hypertension and diabetes often have no symptoms, yet if left uncontrolled for three to five years, they can damage blood vessels,” he said.

The CKG package implemented at the cigarette factory includes body weight measurement, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, TB screening, and medical consultations. Sputum booths are also provided for suspected TB cases.

“The goal is to prevent stroke and dialysis cases. We must ensure that people of productive age do not suffer heart attacks, because if they fall ill, they cannot work or support their families,” Octavianus said.

Through the CKG and TB screening for around 1,300 factory employees, he expressed hope that those found to have high blood pressure would undergo further medical examinations by company doctors.

“Our target is to ensure that Indonesian workers remain productive,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Yogyakarta Health Office Gregorius Anung Trihadi said his office has expanded the reach of the CKG and TB eradication programs to cover more communities.

“It is not only conducted at community health centers and schools, but has been expanded more broadly to communities,” he said.
