Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto introduced the Free Health Check (CKG) program ran by his administration at the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, as a rational policy designed to save the state budget in the long term.

"We are providing free medical check up to all citizens of Indonesia. This is not a populist program. This is a rational program to save money," he spoke at the forum on Thursday.

According to him, the program could reduce the burden of long-term medical costs through early disease detection.

By identifying illnesses at an early stage, the government can avoid much higher expenses associated with treating diseases that have already progressed, he explained.

Prabowo added that based on expert studies, the Free Health Check program has the potential to save the state budget billions of U.S. dollars in the long run.

“My experts say that in the long run, we will save many, many billions of U.S. dollars,” he noted.

He said that around 70 million Indonesians have currently benefited from the program and will receive free health checks once a year for the rest of their lives.

In addition, the CKG program is set to be expanded to cover all children and adults across Indonesia, ensuring universal access to free health examinations.

“By detecting illness and disease at an early stage, we will save much more in the long term in treatment. This is actually a productivity improvement program,” he emphasized.

CKG is a nationwide initiative that provides free basic health examinations to improve early disease detection and increase public health awareness.

The health screening services include mental health, dental health, tuberculosis, and cancer screenings, delivered through community health centers (puskesmas) for the general public.

Meanwhile, the World Economic Forum is an annual global gathering held since 1971 in Davos, Switzerland, bringing together various experts, practitioners, economists, academics, and world leaders to discuss current economic challenges and future projections.

The World Economic Forum, as the organizer, is a non-governmental organization and think tank headquartered in Cologny, Geneva, Switzerland.
