UI Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Mahmud Sudibandriyo, emphasized in Depok on Friday that UI is always open to collaborating with international partners to enhance global engagement.
"We welcome this collaboration with Mexico. UI is committed to continuing to expand collaboration to develop educational quality with international partners, enhancing global engagement to foster superior and impactful cooperation for Indonesia and the global community," Sudibandriyo said.
The Ambassador stated that the cooperation between the two countries would serve as a "bridge" to broader educational collaboration, emphasizing that his visit aimed to bridge gaps and strengthen bilateral ties through the education sector.
During his presentation to the University of Indonesia delegation, the Ambassador emphasized the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México’s (UNAM) strong interest in building a strategic partnership with UI. He noted that UNAM is Mexico's largest and most prominent public university.
The interest is manifested through UNAM's specialized study unit, PUEAAO, or El Programa Universitario de Estudios sobre Asia, Africa, y Oceania.
PUEAAO itself focuses on in-depth studies on Asia, Africa, and Oceania, making it a highly relevant and potential partner for UI, which also has a strong focus on regional studies.
The Mexican Ambassador offered collaboration with PUEAAO at UNAM's main campus but also proactively opened opportunities for communication and cooperation with UNAM's branch campus, strategically located in Beijing, China.
This offer points to a broader dimension of cooperation by leveraging UNAM’s global presence and providing UI access to an academic network extending into East Asia.
In addition to UNAM, the ambassador also introduced two other Mexican higher education institutions that UI considers potential partners: El Colegio de México (ColMex) and Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL).
Both universities share a similar focus, having established research centers dedicated to Asia-Africa studies, reflecting strong potential for synergy in advancing research and academic collaboration across regions.
