Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Cholil Nafis confirmed the invitation when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday morning, saying the meeting is scheduled for this afternoon local time.
“Yes, I have been invited to this afternoon’s discussion, which I was told will address the BoP,” he said.
Saifullah Yusuf, Secretary General of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) who serves as minister of social affairs, conveyed a similar statement.
"It is true that the meeting will take place at 2 p.m.," he told the media.
Speaking as Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Central Board, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti noted that he will represent Muhammadiyah at the meeting alongside Syafiq Mughni, the organization's chairman.
"Prof. Syafiq Mughni and I will attend the talks on behalf of Muhammadiyah," he said.
The invitations followed public backlash against the government's decision to join the BoP, with the MUI urging Indonesia's withdrawal, saying the initiative conflicts with the country's commitment to Palestine’s struggle for independence.
In response, Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi said on Monday (Feb. 2) that the government would hold talks with the MUI to articulate its policy on joining the board..
“That move is part of our effort to build dialogue. If we do not join the board, how can we engage and convey our views so that the Palestinian people can gain recognition of their independence?” he defended the decision.
President Prabowo joined President Trump and several state leaders in launching the BoP on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s 2026 Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22. The board was established with the signing of a charter.
“I think this is a historic opportunity to achieve peace in Gaza,” President Prabowo Subianto told reporters after the launch.
He stressed that the board unites countries sharing Indonesia’s determination to aid the people of Palestine.
Besides Indonesia, the BoP charter was signed by Hungary, Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan.
