Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force for Sumatra announced that Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces received additional funds to support the acceleration of socio-economic recovery for communities.

PRR Task Force Chair Tito Karnavian said in an online inauguration of temporary housing in Tanah Datar, attended from here on Thursday, that the extra budget is disbursed through regional financial transfer mechanisms to strengthen local governments’ capacity in handling rehabilitation and reconstruction phases.

Aceh Province received an additional budget of around Rp1.6 trillion or around US$95 million, with nearly Rp800 billion allocated to the provincial government and the remainder distributed to 23 affected districts and cities.

Meanwhile, North Sumatra Province obtained an extra Rp6.3 trillion or around US$374.2 million, with Rp1.2 trillion allocated to the provincial government and the rest shared among 33 districts and cities.

West Sumatra Province received an additional Rp2.6 trillion or around US$154.4 million, with around Rp500 billion allocated at the provincial level to support post-disaster management.

Tito emphasized that the funds are prioritized for areas requiring special attention, especially for emergency response, infrastructure rehabilitation, and residential reconstruction.

“The Ministry of Finance regulation serves as the basis for budget disbursement, enabling local governments to promptly adjust fiscal policies,” he said, adding that regional budget amendments can be made through notifications to regional legislative representatives without approval discussions due to the disaster status.

Karnavian assured that fund realization will be strictly monitored, as all financial activities are overseen by related state institutions to ensure the funds are properly targeted and genuinely benefit affected communities.
