In a statement released here on Friday, Yuliarto said President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized the development of high-quality human resources as a key component of the AstaCita mission, which can be achieved by strengthening universities.
“The Indonesian government remains committed to providing the widest possible access to education for its people, including through multilateral transnational education,” Yuliarto said.
He noted that transnational education has consistently been discussed during bilateral engagements between Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
One milestone cited was a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Yuliarto also expressed appreciation for Indonesian universities that have begun to see international collaboration as a strategic opportunity. He pointed to a transnational education partnership between Padjadjaran University and the University of Dundee as an example.
The cooperation allows students to earn dual degrees, including in life sciences disciplines such as medicine.
“I welcome the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Padjadjaran University and the University of Dundee for joint programs. Along with other international initiatives, we hope such collaboration will continue to strengthen Indonesian universities and research,” Yuliarto said.
Sharing a similar view, United Kingdom Government International Education Champion Sir Steve Smith said transnational education is expanding rapidly, creating opportunities for people around the world to exchange cultures and experiences.
He added that universities implementing this system demonstrate its strong potential when governments place transnational education among their policy priorities.
