“Today, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and I reaffirmed our close ties and shared commitment to strengthening the Indonesia-Australia partnership through the signing of a joint security treaty,” Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said.
He said the agreement reflects both countries’ determination to work closely together to safeguard their respective national security while making a tangible contribution to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
For Indonesia, the president said, the treaty underscores the country’s commitment to being a good neighbor and to pursuing an independent and active foreign policy.
He noted that Indonesia and Australia are destined to live side by side and have chosen to build their relationship on mutual trust and goodwill.
“Indonesia wants to be friends with everyone, and we do not wish to have any enemies. Therefore, we believe this treaty will serve as a key pillar for stability and partnership in our region,” Prabowo said.
In addition to signing the security pact, Prabowo and Albanese discussed a range of strategic issues, including agriculture, investment, education, and labor.
President Prabowo invited Australia to develop joint ventures in the agricultural sectors of both countries to support Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen food security.
“I also invited Australia to invest in Indonesia’s critical mineral downstreaming sector, including the processing of nickel, copper, bauxite, and gold. At the same time, we are encouraging Indonesian companies to invest in Australia’s critical minerals mining sector,” he said.
