Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon received a visit from Banjarbaru Mayor Erna Lisa Halaby of South Kalimantan to discuss strategic regional agendas, particularly efforts to preserve cultural heritage sites, strengthen cultural and creative villages, and empower local artists.

In a press statement released by the ministry on Saturday, Zon reaffirmed the Ministry of Culture’s commitment to supporting regional initiatives that promote cultural development.

During the meeting, Halaby emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage sites, including reinforcing historically significant areas and promoting intangible cultural heritage.

She also presented plans to develop a living museum concept, similar to an open-air museum, aimed at enhancing cultural tourism. The mayor said revitalizing heritage sites and integrating cultural events were priorities to ensure local culture continues to thrive while providing sustainable spaces for cultural practitioners.

“We will certainly continue to support this initiative, particularly the idea of establishing an open living museum. Essentially, a museum does not always require walls; it can also take the form of open or outdoor spaces,” Zon said.

The minister stressed the importance of curating museum exhibitions in a way that fully and attractively conveys cultural narratives. He added that culture also encompasses traditional knowledge and local technological wisdom that remain alive within communities.

Zon noted that the development of museums and cultural areas is expected to become an integral part of local traditions and daily life.

“We can collaborate, and the revitalization concept will be integrated with relevant agencies, taking into account its alignment with the broader objectives of cultural advancement,” he said.

The meeting was seen as an initial step toward strengthening synergy between the central and regional governments in preserving heritage, developing culture-based creative economies, and positioning Banjarbaru as a sustainable city with strong cultural and historical appeal.
