A member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Nanang Samodra, stated in a press release on Sunday that the aid represents the state's presence in meeting the basic needs of affected communities during the emergency response period.
"We want to ensure that the state is truly present for the people. We hope this assistance helps fulfill the basic needs of those affected by the earthquake," he said after handing over the aid at the Pacitan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) office on Sunday.
The aid package includes 100 blankets, 100 tarpaulins, one large refugee tent, 50 folding mattresses, and 30 family tents.
Samodra emphasized the importance of improving disaster preparedness in earthquake-prone areas like Pacitan through routine disaster simulations, starting from the family level up to the community.
Director of Preparedness at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Pangarso Suryotomo, noted that the types of aid provided were decided based on assessments on the ground.
In addition to the affected residents' basic needs, the aid also includes disaster management equipment to support the local government.
"We are assisting the local government in disaster management, both technically and through the provision of logistics and capacity building," he remarked.
Regional Secretary of Pacitan Heru Wiwoho expressed his appreciation for the support given by the central government, ensuring that the aid will be utilized appropriately.
"On behalf of the regional government, we would like to express our gratitude for the central government's support in helping to accelerate post-earthquake recovery efforts," he said.
