“Yes, the KLH team is currently in the field,” said Rasio Ridho Sani, an official of the ministry, to ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Previously, it was suspected that river pollution was caused by a pesticide warehouse fire in Taman Tekno, Setu, South Tangerang City on Monday (Feb 9).
Earlier reports suggested that the river pollution was linked to a fire at a pesticide warehouse in Taman Tekno, Setu, South Tangerang City.
The blaze allegedly caused significant environmental damage, with the nearby river reportedly contaminated.
The suspected pollution was indicated by changes in water color and odor, as well as fish found floating in the river, believed to have died due to pesticide exposure.
The South Tangerang City Environmental Office (DLH) previously stated that the contamination likely originated from the pesticide storage warehouse.
Head of the DLH, Hadiman, said field investigations found that the source of the pollution was chemical liquid from the warehouse.
“It came from chemical liquid at the pesticide warehouse fire site,” he said on Tuesday (Feb 10).
He explained that when the fire broke out, firefighters sprayed water to extinguish the blaze, causing chemical substances from the warehouse to flow toward the riverbank.
As a result, the river water changed color and emitted a foul odor. Fish found floating in the river were reportedly dead due to exposure to pesticide residues from the burned warehouse.
