“MBG alone has created jobs for more than 1 million people. Eventually, it will create 1.5 million jobs,” Prabowo said Friday at the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2026 event in Jakarta.
The president said the program improves nutrition while creating jobs via Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs), also called MBG kitchens, spread across the country.
Police-managed SPPGs were inaugurated Friday morning, with over 1,100 units expected in total, Prabowo said.
He praised the facilities’ quality, noting the use of advanced, locally-produced equipment ensuring clean water, hygienic utensils, and effective waste management.

Currently, more than 23,000 SPPGs operate nationwide. At peak, the program is projected to serve over 82 million beneficiaries through more than 30,000 kitchens.
“Each kitchen employs approximately 50 people,” Prabowo said, highlighting the direct employment impact.
In addition, each kitchen works with five to ten local food suppliers, involving farmers producing vegetables, fish, poultry, goats, and dairy products.
Several regional leaders reported economic gains linked to MBG, particularly in agriculture and local food supply chains, the president said.
The MBG program, launched Jan. 6, 2025, targets children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and school-aged children up to high school.
The government plans to expand MBG this year to include 400,000 older adults and roughly 36,000 people with disabilities.
