Deputy Chair of House of Representatives Commission I Dave Laksono made the statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, saying Indonesia’s participation goes beyond symbolism.
“Indonesia’s involvement is not merely symbolic; it reflects the country’s concrete contribution to building governance in pursuit of inclusive and sustainable peace,” he said.
Laksono urged the government to continue advocating justice, equality, and respect for international law and the rights of the Palestinian people.
Responding to concerns over the absence of the Palestinian Authority from the board, he expressed confidence that this was part of the dynamics of the peace process.
He emphasized that constructive and inclusive dialogue is essential to ensure meaningful peacebuilding efforts, and stressed that the Board of Peace must serve as a strategic platform for like-minded countries to formulate global solutions rather than become an exclusive forum.
Laksono said President Prabowo’s presence at the board’s inaugural summit could strengthen Indonesia’s commitment to fostering conditions conducive to world peace.
“Indonesia’s participation reaffirms our active role as a nation that consistently prioritizes diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful solutions in addressing international challenges,” he said.
The lawmaker added that the House of Representatives would exercise its oversight function to ensure that Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace aligns with national interests and supports the country’s aspiration to play a greater role in promoting global peace.
Indonesia officially joined the Board of Peace after President Prabowo signed its charter alongside leaders of several countries in Davos, Switzerland, in late January, in the presence of President Donald Trump.
Prabowo departed Indonesia on Monday (Feb. 16), for a bilateral meeting with Trump and to attend the board’s inaugural conference.
