Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali said that his office has prepared a hospital ship and troops to be deployed to Palestine as part of its commitment to the Board of Peace (BoP) to help defuse the conflict.

"We will send a hospital ship. Currently, one is still on the list, but it could be more than one," he informed on Thursday.

According to him, the Navy will prioritize sending one hospital ship to Palestine. A second hospital ship will be kept on standby as a reserve.

Ali said the hospital ship's deployment will also coincide with the deployment of troops in the construction engineering and health sectors.

"We are still awaiting approval and direction from TNI Headquarters regarding the number," the admiral continued.

Previously, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi conveyed the finalization of plan to send peacekeeping troops as part of its commitment to the BoP to help defuse the conflict in Palestine.

Hadi estimated that approximately 8,000 TNI personnel would be deployed.

Earlier reports suggested that the Rafah region was among the possible deployment locations. However, Prasetyo said the decision had not yet been finalized.

"We are still preparing ourselves. If an agreement is reached, we must send peacekeeping troops as a commitment," he assured.

The State Secretary emphasized that Indonesia’s involvement in the BoP reflects the nation’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, particularly in supporting the recognition of Palestinian independence and helping alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza.

Indonesia’s participation in the BoP, along with seven other Muslim-majority countries, is expected to help de-escalate the conflict and facilitate humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip, he added.

"At the very least, we hope to de-escalate the conflict in Gaza. With this process underway, food aid can enter Gaza. We hope this will ease their burden," he said.

Regarding the inaugural BoP Summit, scheduled for February 19, 2026, Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto has received an invitation, though his attendance has yet to be confirmed.
