Boehly, CEO of Eldridge Industries, is also widely known as the owner of Chelsea, the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, and the Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers.
In a photo issued by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta, President Prabowo was seen posing with Boehly and Indonesia’s Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani with the jersey, which bears James’ name and the number 24 on the back.
Roeslani, who also serves as CEO of sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia, noted that the encounter took place on the sidelines of the president’s meeting with 12 global investors and business leaders in Washington.
“He (Boehly) pledged to bring Chelsea and the Lakers to Indonesia for cooperation programs and matches,” the minister said after the meeting.
In addition to Boehly, President Prabowo also met with Armen Panossian, Oaktree CEO and owner of Italian football club Inter Milan; Matt Harris of BlackRock Founding Partners; Martin Escobari, co-president and managing director of global growth equity firm General Atlantic; and Albert Rabil, CEO of Keyne Anderson.
Also joining the president were Neil Brown, managing director of Global Institute KRR; Michael Weinberg, chairperson of the Investment Committee of Levine Leichtman Capital Partners; Luke Taylor, co-president of Stonepeak; Nabil Malik, COO of Thrive Capital; and Jeffrey Perlman, CEO of Warburg Pincus, among others.
In an Instagram post, Indonesia’s Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya noted that the magnates had been cooperating with Danantara.
He added that President Prabowo used the business forum to reaffirm the Indonesian government’s commitment to fostering a conducive investment climate and opening room for mutually beneficial collaboration to strengthen economic chains and create jobs.
