Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bali's immigration office has deported a United States citizen, identified by the initials TS, after he completed his prison sentence for involvement in a 2014 suitcase murder case.

TS was released from Kerobokan Prison on February 17 and deported on February 24 via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali Immigration Regional Office head Felucia Sengky Ratna said on Wednesday.

"After TS served his sentence, our responsibility was to ensure his removal from Indonesia's territory, as his crime disrupted public order and violated legal norms," Ratna said.

TS was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Denpasar District Court on July 9, 2015, for violating Article 340 of the Criminal Code.

The case involved the murder of a woman whose body was found in a suitcase at a luxury hotel in Nusa Dua, Bali.

TS committed the crime with HLM, his former girlfriend. The victim was HLM’s biological mother.

HLM was released on October 29, 2021, and deported on November 2 the same year.

After completing his sentence, TS was transferred to the Class I Special Immigration Office at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Checkpoint and later to the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center for repatriation processing.

He was subject to administrative immigration sanctions in the form of deportation under the Immigration Law.

Authorities have also proposed placing TS on the entry ban list.

Under Article 102 of the law, the ban may be imposed for up to 10 years or for life for individuals deemed to pose a serious threat to public security and order.

Ratna said her office will determine the duration of the ban after reviewing the case and its social impact.
