"Indonesia mourns the loss of its fallen peacekeepers and stands in solidarity with their families, while wishing a swift recovery to those injured," quoted the official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in X in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Indonesia stated that the recurrence of such heinous attacks against Indonesian peacekeepers within a short span of time is utterly unacceptable, stressing that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers is non-negotiable.
"This cannot be treated as an isolated occurrence, but reflects a rapidly deteriorating security environment in southern Lebanon, where ongoing Israeli military operations have placed United Nations peacekeepers at grave risk," the statement said.
Indonesia also stated that any harm against the UN peacekeeper constitutes a serious violation of international law and must not go unanswered.
Indonesia called for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to establish the facts, including the circumstances and those responsible, and stressed that full accountability must follow.
Indonesia continues to strongly condemn Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, which have significantly increased the risks faced by UN peacekeepers and undermined the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate under Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).
Earlier, an Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeeper was killed by artillery fire near the Indonesian UNIFIL contingent's position near Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon, on Sunday (March 29).
Private First Class (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon was confirmed killed in the incident, while three other personnel, Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Prakat Arif Kurniawan, were injured.
The UN reported that two Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeepers were killed and two others were injured in an attack on a UNIFIL logistics convoy near Bani Hayyan in southern Lebanon on Monday (March 30).
With the two additional casualties in the attack, three people have been killed while carrying out their peacekeeping missions in southern Lebanon so far.
