Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has issued warnings to 2,100 Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) and suspended several others to continuously improve the service quality of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.

BGN Head Dadan Hindayana said in Jakarta on Thursday that this move was taken as a supervisory measure to ensure service standards are consistently met.

"A total of 2,100 SPPGs have been issued warnings, while 1,789 others have had their operations suspended. Most of the suspensions are enforced because these units have not yet registered for Hygiene and Sanitation Fitness Certificates (SLHS)," he explained.

In some cases, even units providing quality service faced temporary suspension because their certificates remained unissued for over a month despite having registered.

Another factor leading to the suspensions is the lack of wastewater treatment plants. In this regard, BGN has requested that units without these facilities prioritize their construction immediately.

"The duration of the suspension depends on how quickly each unit can meet these requirements, which is estimated to take between one and two weeks," he said.

He also addressed findings during Ramadan, noting that 62 SPPGs had prepared menus that did not comply with established standards.

As a response, the agency subsequently suspended the operations of the units involved to allow them to make the necessary improvements.

"The temporary halt is not a permanent sanction; it is intended to provide every SPPG the time to fix their shortcomings before operating again," he remarked.

Targeting 82.9 million beneficiaries nationwide, the MBG program was launched in early 2023 to improve the nutritional status of children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and schoolchildren up to the high school level.

The government is expanding the program to cover older adults and persons with disabilities this year.
