Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian national field hockey team defeated Kazakhstan 4-3 in a Group A match of the 2026 Asian Games qualifiers at the Royal Thai Air Force Hockey Field in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday.

The victory lifted the Red and White Team's motivation after a 1-4 defeat to Oman on the second matchday on Friday (April 3).

Earlier, Indonesia secured its first win with a 4-3 victory over Hong Kong in its opening Pool A match on Thursday (April 2).

In the match against Kazakhstan, Indonesia played aggressively from the start, with Ahdan Asasi opening the scoring in the sixth minute.

Nine minutes later, Asasi scored again to put the Indonesian national hockey team ahead. A goal by Prastyo in the 31st minute widened the gap.

Kazakhstan responded through Yerkebulan Dyussebekov, who scored in the 44th minute to reduce the score gap.

However, Indonesia remained focused and launched a counterattack. The team coached by Muhammad Dhaarma Raj managed to launch a counterattack, breaking through Kazakhstan's defense with a goal scored by Khaerulloh Akmal.

Kazakhstan continued to fight and added two late goals, both scored by Agymtay Duisengazy, but it was not enough to overturn the result.

The victory over Kazakhstan was in line with the target set earlier by Dhaarma to win the remaining two matches. As a result, Indonesia now has one match left against host Thailand on Monday (April 6).

To qualify directly for the 2026 Asian Games, Indonesia must finish in the top two of the pool, which would also secure a place in the qualification semifinals.

The 2026 Asian Games will be held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
