Samarinda (ANTARA) - Around 50 staff members of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka have begun working in Nusantara (IKN), Indonesia’s future capital under development in East Kalimantan, according to IKN Authority (OIKN) Head Basuki Hadimuljono.

“Preparations have begun. In fact, some 50 staff of Mr. Vice President have been assigned here to set up administration at the Vice Presidential Palace,” he remarked during a visit to the East Kalimantan Governor’s Office in Samarinda on Monday.

Hadimuljono said he also used the visit to outline OIKN’s ongoing efforts to accelerate development of Nusantara’s Government Core Area (KIPP), with progress ongoing across facilities for executive, legislative, and judicial institutions.

The former public works and housing minister assured the public that construction of House of Representatives (DPR) buildings and judicial facilities remains on track with the development road map set in 2022.

He added that government building development goes in tandem with construction of residential complexes for state workers to be transferred to the new capital, noting that the Ministry of Public Works will provide technical recommendations to support the process.

Vice President Gibran previously traveled to Nusantara in late December 2025 to directly review development progress at several sites.

After his two-day visit, Gibran stated that the government aims to complete the legislative and judicial complexes by 2027 at the earliest, in line with the target to designate Nusantara as Indonesia’s political capital the following year.

President Prabowo Subianto set the timeline. He made his inaugural trip as head of state to the city in January 2026, where the OIKN chief briefed him directly on recent developments.

He also called for accelerating construction and instructed OIKN to refine development strategies, highlighting measures to address heat waves and mitigate wildfire risks.
