Nusantara (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has renewed its commitment to focusing construction works in future capital Nusantara (IKN), under development in East Kalimantan, on buildings for legislative and judicial institutions in 2026.

“Developing the legislative and judicial complexes is one of our priorities this year,” Head of the IKN Authority (OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono remarked in Nusantara on Thursday.

He added that construction projects for the two complexes proceed in tandem with efforts to foster a suitable living environment that supports social and economic activities in the new capital throughout 2026.

Hadimuljono stressed that OIKN remains committed to preparing supporting infrastructure and facilities, including housing units and basic services, in a bid to facilitate the gradual relocation of civil servants from Jakarta to Nusantara, which spans parts of North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara.

“Our 2026 agenda includes planning the development of a civil servant area,” he said, noting that staff transfers are expected to continue through 2028.

The OIKN chief further explained that the central government aims to relocate approximately 4,000 civil servants to Nusantara by that year, with about 2,000 personnel already working in Nusantara as of March 2026.

According to him, the relocated civil servants comprise 1,100 personnel serving at OIKN and 900 at the Public Works Ministry, the Health Ministry, and the Transportation Ministry.

President Prabowo Subianto has assured the public of his commitment to sustaining IKN development, which was initiated in 2022 under former president Joko Widodo to reduce Java-centric development and promote more equitable growth.

Prabowo reinforced this commitment with his first presidential visit to Nusantara last January, where he reviewed several construction works. The visit followed a similar trip by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka in late December 2025.

After his two-day visit, Gibran stated that the government aims to complete the legislative and judicial complexes by 2027, in line with plans to designate Nusantara as Indonesia’s political capital the following year.
