“If the question is about a withdrawal decision, it has not been made. However, following yesterday’s incident, the government needs to coordinate,” he told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (April 8).
He said the government, through the Foreign Affairs Ministry, is still coordinating and evaluating the incident involving TNI personnel in Lebanon.
According to Hadi, any decision on a possible withdrawal will depend on the outcome of the ongoing evaluation, including developments on the ground.
He added that the assessment also includes input from Indonesia’s representative to the United Nations.
“Our communication with our representative to the UN is also part of the evaluation,” he said.
Hadi noted that the government will wait for a comprehensive assessment before deciding on the future of the troop deployment.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said any changes to Indonesia’s participation in the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission must be carefully considered.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Yvonne Mewengkang, said Indonesia’s participation in UNIFIL reflects its strong commitment to global peace and security.
“Decisions on this matter, including any potential withdrawal, require careful consideration, including the safety of personnel, the relevance of UNIFIL’s mandate, and Indonesia’s contribution to regional stability,” she said.
She added that UNIFIL operates under a mandate from the United Nations Security Council, with implementation coordinated by the UN Secretariat.
As a troop-contributing country, Indonesia maintains close coordination with the UN and other contributing nations, including to monitor the safety and security of personnel on the ground.
She said any changes to troop participation would be made with careful consideration and in line with developments in the field.
To date, three TNI personnel have been killed and eight others injured in separate attacks while serving with UNIFIL in Lebanon.
