Deputy Central Papua Police Chief Senior Commissioner Gustav R. Urbinas said Wednesday the evaluation would be conducted during the first month to determine future security strategies in the district.
“We expect the additional personnel in Dogiyai to help ensure security going forward. This will be assessed through the first month,” Urbinas said.
He stressed the reinforcement should not be temporary but capable of maintaining long-term stability to prevent renewed disturbances.
“We do not want a situation where personnel are withdrawn after conditions improve, only for security disruptions to reemerge,” he said.
Urbinas added that police continue coordinating with local governments to support efforts to maintain public order and safety.
Authorities are also preparing a comprehensive security strategy, taking into account multiple factors to strengthen long-term stability in Dogiyai.
To bolster security, the National Police headquarters has deployed 148 personnel to Central Papua Police, including 100 paramilitary officers, 10 intelligence officers, 20 criminal investigators, 14 internal affairs officers, and four inspectors.
The reinforcement follows a series of clashes after a 24-year-old Dogiyai police officer, identified as JE, was killed in Kimupugi Village, Kamuu Subdistrict, on March 31, 2026.
The incident triggered confrontations between residents and police, disrupting daily activities and leading to road blockades in several areas.
Central Papua Police, together with Dogiyai police, strengthened security using a regional deployment system involving neighboring Paniai and Deiyai districts, while intensifying patrols along the Trans-Dogiyai route to Enarotali.
As a result, all road blockades were dismantled by April 3, despite resistance from some community groups during the operation.
By April 4, transportation routes were declared secure, allowing the distribution of logistics and fuel supplies to resume normally.
Police said investigations are ongoing into multiple reports related to the incidents, as authorities seek to ensure accountability and prevent further escalation.
