Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto urged speakers of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) nationwide to unite as fellow citizens to build the nation, despite differences in regional origin, ethnicity, and political affiliation.

He delivered the message to 503 DPRD chairs during a retreat organized by National Resilience Institute at the Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang, Central Java, on Saturday.

"We come from different backgrounds, different regions, different ethnicities, different educational backgrounds, different professions, and different political parties. However, as children of the nation, we remain one," he said.

During the session, the president expressed his intention to speak "heart-to-heart" with the participants, with the main briefing held behind closed doors.

"I want to speak candidly. Some of what I say may be unpleasant; some may feel offended, and some may feel saddened," he added.

Lemhannas is holding a five-day Regional Leadership Strengthening Course (KPPD) at the academy from April 15 to April 19.

A total of 503 DPRD chairs are participating in a series of leadership briefings as part of the program, which aims to strengthen the role of regional legislative leaders in supporting national development.

The event was attended by several senior officials, including Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
