In a statement in Jakarta on Sunday, BKSAP Chairman, Syahrul Aidi Maazat, stated that one of Israel’s actions highlighted was the attack on UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon that killed three Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers.
He stated that Israel's actions were "out of line" because they attacked peacekeeping forces.
The BKSAP also strongly condemned Israel’s military operations in Palestine, including continued airstrikes in Gaza. He further noted that the Israeli government had recently passed a law concerning the death penalty for Palestinians.
“Israel has become a parasite on all of us. It is undermining the geopolitical and economic order, even undermining world peace. We urge all countries to unite and pressure Israel to prevent a third world war,” Maazat said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of BKSAP Muhammad Husein Fadlulloh, during a discussion session on the role of parliaments in the United Nations, said that parliamentary involvement is a crucial factor in ensuring the effectiveness of UN programs.
“The Indonesian delegation believes that the UN’s presence at the government level alone will not reach its full potential without the active involvement of parliaments as institutions that carry a direct mandate from the people,” he said.
He also stressed the need to transform the UN coordination model, expanding engagement beyond executive governments to include legislative bodies.
Fadlulloh highlighted Türkiye’s disaster management practices as an example of the importance of integration between UN institutions and legislative mechanisms.
According to him, such synergy can accelerate the development of emergency regulations and improve the effectiveness of humanitarian aid mobilization.
In this context, BKSAP encouraged the UN to more actively facilitate parliamentary involvement in strengthening disaster resilience in each country.
Furthermore, he emphasized that collaboration between the UN and parliaments must also encompass humanitarian issues, including Gaza.
“Indonesia will not stop urging the UN to support a resolution for a permanent and complete ceasefire in Gaza,” he added.
Fadlulloh also emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to continuing its active role in pushing for UN reform to become a more inclusive and democratic institution.
“Indonesia is committed to remaining an active partner in reforming the UN into a more inclusive, democratic institution that respects the central role of national parliaments in maintaining global peace and prosperity,” he said.
The 152nd IPU General Assembly was held in Istanbul from April 15 to 19, 2026.
The session focused on the global peace agenda, with participation from various countries, including the Indonesian BKSAP delegation, which also called for the protection of persons with disabilities.
