Minister of Population and Family Development Wihaji emphasized that the demographic bonus currently enjoyed by Indonesia is the result of long-term efforts through the family planning program established decades ago.
“We are reaping this demographic bonus from Prof. Haryono Suyono, the first head of BKKBN, through the family planning program, resulting in today’s demographic bonus, namely the productive age group of 14-65 years,” he said in an official statement here on Sunday.
Wihaji noted that there was strong collective effort in gathering participants, providing services, and promoting contraception as a method in the family planning approach.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening the family planning program as a strategy to create quality human resources while accelerating poverty alleviation, as population control must go hand in hand with improving human resource quality.
“The ministry is strengthening a family-based development approach through the implementation of eight family functions as the main foundation of national development. We will continue to work tirelessly to build and be empowered together in contributing to Indonesia,” he said.
Meanwhile, former BKKBN head for the 1983-1998 period, Haryono Suyono, reminded that Indonesia’s family planning program has gained international recognition. In 1989, Indonesia received the UN Population Award for its strong commitment to reducing fertility rates.
Through cross-generational collaboration and renewed strengthening of the program, BKKBN reaffirmed its commitment to optimizing the demographic bonus momentum through the development of quality families and competitive human resources.
