Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has called on the government to conduct a thorough evaluation of the deployment of Indonesian soldiers to overseas conflict zones following the deaths of three peacekeepers in Lebanon.

In her speech closing a session period at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, she underscored the urgency of scrutinizing all aspects of Indonesia’s peacekeeping role, highlighting mission clarity, operational preparedness, and personnel safety.

She emphasized the need for strong political commitment and adequate capacity, urging both the government and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to ensure strict adherence to “international best practices and standards for United Nations peacekeeping operations.”

Maharani also expressed condolences for the passing of Major (Posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Chief Sergeant (Posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Corporal Second Class (Posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon, who died in the line of duty in Lebanon.

“Let us pray that these finest sons of the nation return to the gracious embrace of God Almighty and that the bereaved families are blessed with strength and fortitude,” the lawmaker remarked.

She went on to demand a credible investigation involving the United Nations and relevant parties to ensure objective findings.

“All efforts must be grounded in the guiding principles of UN peacekeeping missions, namely transparency, accountability, and respect for international law and human rights,” Maharani affirmed.

The three fallen TNI soldiers served as peacekeepers with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). They were killed in late March 2026 following Israeli attacks that struck UNIFIL positions in southern Lebanon, which also injured several other Indonesian personnel.

Indonesia swiftly responded to the incident with condemnation, calling for an immediate probe and requesting an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council.

The government has repatriated the bodies of the slain peacekeepers, who received full honors from President Prabowo Subianto and senior officials upon arrival in the homeland on April 4.
