Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor stated the Domestic Workers Protection Law (PPRT Law) serves as a legal basis for protecting domestic workers in Indonesia.

"The ratification of the PPRT Bill is expected to serve as a legal basis for protecting domestic workers in Indonesia," Noor said in his statement on Tuesday.

The ratification of the PPRT Bill by the House of Representatives (DPR), according to him, ends a 22-year wait to provide certainty regarding the legal protection and social security for domestic workers.

"On behalf of the President, we would like to express our gratitude to the leadership and members of the House Legislative Body who, with dedication and hard work, have completed the deliberations on the PPRT Bill," he noted.

The law regulates worker protection based on family values, respect for human rights, justice, welfare, and legal certainty. It governs both direct and indirect recruitment mechanisms.

First, the recruitment and scope of domestic work, and the employment relationship between domestic workers and employers, are based on an agreement or work contract.

Furthermore, this regulation covers the rights and obligations of domestic workers, employers, and domestic worker placement companies (P3RT).

"In addition, vocational training for prospective domestic workers and domestic workers, business licensing for P3RT, and guidance and supervision of the implementation of domestic worker protection," he explained.

The law also covers dispute resolution between employers, domestic workers and/or P3RT, as well as community participation in protecting domestic workers.

In addition to providing legal protection for domestic workers, the law is expected to prevent any kind of discrimination, exploitation, and harassment of domestic workers, as well as regulate harmonious employment relationships that uphold the values of humanity and justice, according to Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas.

"After seriously considering the opinions of the factions, allow us to represent the President of the Republic of Indonesia in this honorable meeting to express our approval for the PPRT Bill to be passed into law," he said at the DPR plenary session.
