We want to ensure that TdS will once again be present ...Padang (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism has confirmed that the international cycling race Tour de Singkarak (TdS) will return to West Sumatra in 2027, aiming to boost tourism and sports development in the province.
"We want to ensure that TdS will once again be present as an international scale event and an icon of West Sumatra," Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development of the Ministry Hariyanto said during a working visit to Padang on Thursday.
The race, which had been suspended due to the COVID19 pandemic, is expected to serve as a catalyst for tourism, the creative economy, and small businesses in the region.

Ahead of the 2027 event, the ministry pledged closer coordination with the local government and stakeholders to prepare infrastructure and facilities, particularly following major floods and landslide in Sumatra late 2025.
"Disasters have become both a challenge and a strength for West Sumatra, which continues to remain resilient in the tourism sector," Hariyanto noted.
In the meantime, Irman Gusman, a senator from West Sumatra, welcomed the plan, saying the event would help showcase the province’s tourism potential. He also urged the government to improve supporting infrastructure to ensure accessibility and sustainability.
The Tour de Singkarak, first held in 2009, has grown into one of the Southeast Asia’s premier cycling events, drawing international teams and promoting West Sumatra’s cultural and natural attractions.
In 2020, the Tour de Singkarak was canceled due to the COVID19 pandemic.
