Jakarta (ANTARA) -
The Greater Jakarta Police has carried out early preventive measures against a number of rioter groups attempting to infiltrate labor demonstrations at the National Monument (Monas) and in front of the parliament complex.

“To uphold democracy and ensure the right to express opinions in public in accordance with the laws, we continue to make efforts preemptively, preventively, and repressively,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, at a press conference here on Friday.

Imanuddin explained that the police also managed to secure items that were to be used to incite unrest during the May Day activities, especially those found in front of the parliament building.

“There were empty bottles and cloth wicks used to make Molotov cocktails. We also found and secured gasoline or fuel that could be used together with the bottles and cloth to create Molotov cocktails,” he said.

He added that officers also discovered concrete nails intended to damage buildings or concrete fences.

Authorities also found slingshots with small metal balls prepared for attacks against officers on duty, as well as several sharp weapons, he pointed out.

“We also found documents outlining plans to create unrest. They had already prepared a rundown of activities, including the timing of attacks, where they would come from, how the incidents would unfold, where they would retreat, and gathering points,” he said.

Those caught carrying dangerous items linked to potential unrest are currently undergoing questioning for further investigation, he added.

“A total of 101 individuals are currently providing information to us. After the process is completed, they will be allowed to return to their homes,” he said.
