“We ensure that the selection process is transparent, inclusive, and reaches top talents from all regions across Indonesia,” she said when confirmed by ANTARA here on Saturday.
Christie explained that the Garuda Top School has made various preparations, including in terms of the selection system, outreach, and school capacity readiness.
For the new Garuda School, she said four locations are currently under construction: East Belitung (Bangka Belitung), South Central Timor District (East Nusa Tenggara), South Konawe (Southeast Sulawesi), and Bulungan (North Kalimantan), all of which are targeted to be gradually operational to support this year’s new student admissions.
“At present, the new Garuda School is conducting student admissions. The second phase has been completed, and we hope the nation’s best students can join in the upcoming academic year,” she said.
In addition to the four new schools targeted to operate in the upcoming academic year, Christie noted that the ministry will also build six more schools and increase the number of transformed Garuda schools in 2026.
“For the transformed Garuda schools, we are currently in the selection stage. There are already 240 schools that have registered from 25 provinces across Indonesia,” she said.
She added that the number and locations will be determined based on evaluation results, regional readiness, and national strategic needs in expanding equitable access to quality education.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology said that it is targeting the transformation of 30 leading schools nationwide into Garuda Transformed Schools by 2026.
The ministry will add several supporting elements to prepare Garuda School students for admission to top global universities, such as the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
