Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka received a working visit from Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavan Phomvihane here on Tuesday to discuss strengthening bilateral partnership.

Upon arrival at the Vice Presidential Palace, Deputy Prime Minister Phomvihane was welcomed by an honor guard from the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) and a Balinese Pendet dance performance.

VP Gibran, who had been waiting in the palace courtyard, approached Phomvihane as he stepped out of his vehicle.

Wearing a black suit, Gibran warmly greeted Phomvihane with a handshake while engaging in light conversation as they proceeded to the main hall of the Vice Presidential Palace.

Upon arriving at the front room, VP Gibran invited Phomvihane to sign the guest book before posing for photos in front of the media.

The two leaders then entered the main hall to hold a bilateral meeting accompanied by their respective delegations.

Deputy PM Phomvihane and VP Gibran also introduced the members of their delegations attending the meeting.

VP Gibran was accompanied by some deputy ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta and Deputy Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Management Agency (BP BUMN) Aminuddin Ma'ruf.

Meanwhile, the Lao delegation included the Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Indonesia Khamfeuang Phanthaxay, Director General of the Asia-Pacific and Africa Department Bounthanongsack Chanthalath, and Director General of the ASEAN Department Sengdavanh Vongsay.

Indonesia and Laos will celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. Prior to visiting the VP Palace, Deputy PM Thongsavan had met with Foreign Minister Sugiono on Monday (May 4).
