“I see the meeting as an extraordinary occasion. I come here to represent the government as a newly appointed chief of the Presidential Staff Office,” he noted in a statement cited here on Wednesday.
He explained that the visit was meant to harbor voices and aspirations from religious figures, which he viewed as vital to national stability and integrity, as clerics tend to have greater access to reach communities at the grassroots level.
“I listened to suggestions and inputs from ulemas, and we will forward their voices to Mr. President. I learned about plentiful crucial matters,” said the retired army general.
Abdurachman emphasized that his team would follow up on all the points discussed during the meeting to fulfill its functional responsibility as a presidential aide.
In addition to harboring aspirations, he also used the MUI forum to align perspectives on the importance of safeguarding national unity.
He quoted MUI Chairman Anwar Iskandar as saying that the integrity of Indonesia largely depends on the people’s commitment to fostering a sense of togetherness, maintaining unity, refraining from verbal offenses, upholding mutual respect, and avoiding slanders.
Furthermore, the KSP head asserted that the responsibility to maintain national stability is shared by all elements of society, not a duty reserved for the government.
On that note, he called for promoting stronger ties between the government and religious institutions to preserve national unity and sovereignty.
During the visit, Abdurachman was received by senior figures of the MUI Central Executive Board, including deputy chairmen Cholil Naafis and Marsudi Syuhud.
