Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry strengthens the downstreaming of national essential oils by developing the Flavor and Fragrance Center (PFF) as a hub for innovation, training, and product business incubation.

In a statement in Jakarta on Sunday, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that Indonesia has significant potential for developing a natural-based flavor, fragrance, and wellness industry due to its rich biodiversity and abundant availability of essential oil commodities.

“The PFF development in Bali is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen essential oil downstreaming by processing raw materials into high-value products, including perfumes, aromatherapy, spa items, cosmetics, and natural household goods,” he said.

According to him, the PFF, located in Bali, offers significant market opportunities for the development of the downstream essential oil industry due to its high tourism activity and the growing spa and wellness industry.

Furthermore, the healthy lifestyle trend has increased the demand for aromatherapy products, spa oils, perfumes, aromatherapy candles, and natural body care products.

Since its development, PFF has conducted various capacity-building activities and essential oil-based training.

One strategic program implemented is certification training for blending essential oil-based spa oils for 40 Indonesian migrant workers in collaboration with the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI).

He said the training aims to strengthen workforce competencies in the spa and wellness sector, including for overseas job placements in countries such as the Maldives.

In addition, the PFF has also conducted non-certified aromatherapy blending training for participants from the Denpasar Industrial Training Center (BDI) and the general public, including a mini-class titled “Create Your Scent” in collaboration with Spa Factory Bali.

The PFF has also developed a curriculum for perfume blending based on essential oils to support human resource development in Indonesia’s flavor and fragrance industry.

Ardika stated that in 2026, PFF development will continue to be strengthened through various practice-based training programs supporting the downstream essential oil industry and the creative economy.

Training on processing used cooking oil into soap products was also conducted on March 13, 2026, in collaboration between BDI Denpasar and the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at Udayana University, involving 22 participants.

Furthermore, PFF Bali will conduct perfume blending training on May 29, 2026, as part of efforts to develop competencies in the essential oil fragrance industry.

Additional training on making aromatherapy soaps and candles is scheduled for June 29, 2026, to develop wellness products based on natural ingredients.

On August 7, 2026, the PFF is also scheduled to hold training on aromatherapy incense production to support diversification of higher value-added essential oil products.
