Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) explored deeper bilateral cooperation with the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) through a high-level meeting in Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday (May 14).

TNI AL Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali received a courtesy call from RNLN Commander Vice Admiral Harold Liebregs during the visit of the Dutch battleship HNLMS De Ruyter in Surabaya, according to a TNI AL press release received in Jakarta on Friday.

Ali expressed appreciation for Liebregs’ visit, describing it as a reflection of the longstanding ties between Indonesia and the Netherlands, including in the defense sector.

“TNI AL and the Royal Netherlands Navy have long enjoyed solid cooperation across defense, operations and exercises, and educational programs designed to enhance personnel professionalism,” he said.

He voiced hope that the Surabaya talks would produce concrete plans to expand cooperation in maritime defense to further elevate bilateral relations.

The two naval chiefs also conducted a ship inspection before concluding the engagement with the conferring of a charter.
