The ministry's Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, said here on Thursday that the Golden Visa, launched in 2024, is issued under a selective policy, thereby necessitating its applicants to meet several requirements.
For the global talent category (with a 5 to 10-year stay), Golden Visa applicants must meet specific academic or professional criteria, hold a passport valid for at least six months, and provide proof of living expenses or a security deposit.
Marantoko explained that the long-term stay and benefits of the Golden Visa are not granted to just any foreign national, a measure designed to prevent unwanted issues.
"Essentially, Indonesia is welcoming yet remains firm," he said.
Among the global talents who received the Golden Visa facility is singer Anggun Cipta Sasmi.
The Indonesian-born international singer, who now holds French citizenship, expressed relief and gratitude for the Golden Visa.
She noted that the facility is highly necessary for Indonesian-born global talents to return and make a tangible contribution to Indonesia's economy.
"No matter how far you travel, you will always want to come home," Anggun said.
Even so, the singer—who has lived in Paris for 30 years—noted that many in the diaspora are still unaware of Indonesia’s Golden Visa and expressed hope that the government will continue to promote and raise awareness about the facility.
According to the Directorate General of Immigration's record, as of May 18, 2026, as many as 1,274 visas have been issued under the Golden Visa scheme, with the total investment generated reaching Rp52.1 trillion (US$2.9 billion).
