Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government used up to Rp1.9 trillion total budget to reduce the number of slum areas in the city since 2018 to 2025.

"Totally, the budget for slum area arrangement, which was implemented during the 2018-2025 period, is approximately Rp1.9 trillion. Thus, the average annual budget allocation is about Rp200 billion," Head of Jakarta Public Housing and Settlement Land Office (DPRKP), Kelik Indriyanto, said here on Friday.

Indriyanto noted the Jakarta Provincial Government has consistently allocated a budget for slum area arrangement through various settlement quality improvement programs.

Based on the latest data collected by the provincial government, in collaboration with the Indonesia's Statistics Agency (BPS RI), the number of slum areas in the level of community units (RW) in Jakarta has now decreased more than 50 percent, from 445 to 211 units, in 2017.

The decrease is considered as a significant achievement to improve the quality of residential areas.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has also ordered that management of slum areas in the future should be highly prioritised, especially in the area of West Jakarta and North Jakarta.

Tambora Subdistrict in West Jakarta has become one of the main focused areas due to its high settlement complexity, which requires targeted intervention.

Indriyanto admitted slum areas are still detected in both area, West Jakarta and North Jakarta. However, there are currently no heavy-category slum areas in the level of RW in Jakarta. The remaining slum areas in the level of RW in Jakarta are in the moderate, light, and very light category.

Further, the provincial government has targeted to handle 50 RWs of slum areas until 2027 in collaboration with Jakarta's Statistics Agency (BPS Jakarta).
