Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and the United Kingdom, through the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) and the British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham) Indonesia, held talks on strengthening the halal product supply chain between the two countries.

BPJPH head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said on Friday the discussions also covered the implementation of Indonesia’s halal product assurance system, known as JPH.

“Halal is not a trade barrier. Halal is about customer satisfaction and loyalty. When halal assurance is firmly established, products gain added value and stronger competitiveness in the global market,” Hasan stated.

He explained that the meeting with BritCham served as a strategic dialogue forum between regulators and multinational companies to support the implementation of mandatory halal certification while ensuring smooth trade and product distribution worldwide.

Mandatory halal certification, he added, is part of Indonesia’s efforts to improve product competitiveness and strengthen consumer confidence in goods sold domestically.

Hasan emphasized that BPJPH will continue engaging with businesses to ensure regulations are implemented gradually, adaptively, and in ways that support the sustainability of both national and international industries.

“The most important thing is how this halal ecosystem grows together. Regulations are enforced, while businesses also receive certainty and assistance,” he said.

Meanwhile, Anggarini Sesotyoningtyas, executive director of BritCham Indonesia, welcomed BPJPH’s openness in engaging with international businesses.

She said constructive dialogue is crucial to supporting effective halal implementation in line with global supply chain dynamics.

“We appreciate this openness to dialogue. Together with the British Embassy, we brought various business representatives to discuss halal implementation in Indonesia. We also want to provide direct input from the field,” Sesotyoningtyas noted.
