Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun stated that current global geopolitical pressures further underscore the importance of stronger cooperation between Indonesia and China.

"There is no other choice but to strengthen cooperation, both in the context of Indonesia-China relations and ASEAN-China relations," Djauhari remarked at the Indonesia-China business forum in Jakarta on Tuesday (May 26).

He noted that the global community is currently witnessing a transformation in global geopolitics and geoeconomics with far-reaching impacts, making it appropriate for Indonesia and China to further strengthen their cooperation in facing such challenges.

Bilaterally, he said, China has consistently been one of Indonesia's largest trading partners and investors, with bilateral trade reaching nearly US$170 billion in 2025 and realized investment estimated at US$7.5 billion.

To ensure the sustainability of cooperation amidst economic uncertainty and shifts in global security, the Indonesian government guarantees various mitigation measures to ensure competitiveness and stable development.

Furthermore, Chinese investment has contributed to industrial transformation, downstreaming and the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem, renewable energy and infrastructure connectivity in Indonesia to date.

China’s role in the national economy is also becoming increasingly important in Indonesia’s efforts to transform into a modern, inclusive, and competitive developed nation, as envisioned in the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision, which now has 19 years remaining.

Djauhari also highlighted the vast potential of the ASEAN market, with a total population of around 600 million and a regional GDP exceeding US$3 trillion.

This reflects the progress of Southeast Asia, with Indonesia, as the region’s largest country, serving as one of the key drivers of that growth, he added.

"If we move in harmony and continue to work together, we can benefit from the geoeconomic and geopolitical transformations taking place before our eyes," Djauhari concluded.
