Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia-France bilateral relationship are currently at their highest level ever, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said during a joint press statement with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Thursday (May 28).

"Your Excellency, Indonesia-France relationship are at what I believe to be their highest level ever," Prabowo remarked as monitored from the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

Prabowo noted the relationship is currently very strong and aligned on several positions at the international level. According to him, such condition is inseparable from President Macron's direct support for Indonesia-France bilateral relationship.

"In several respects, Indonesia and France share the same position and currently our bilateral relations are very good. This is none other than because of the direct support from President Macron," Prabowo stated.

In defense sector, he added, the connection between Indonesia and France is progressing very well. Cooperation in science and technology also continues to grow. Meanwhile, in education sector, Prabowo emphasised the Indonesian government seeks to enhance cooperation with France.

Prabowo then said he had instructed schools in Indonesia to begin studying the French language.

"I have instructed that all levels of schools in Indonesia must learn French, considering global development in the future," he remarked.

On the occasion, Prabowo also assessed that President Macron's leadership in the international stage demonstrates a firm and consistent stance toward the principles upheld by the French Republic.

Furthermore, the President expressed appreciation for the reception extended by the French Government to him and the Indonesian delegation during the visit to Paris.

Prabowo noted that this year he had visited France three times. In addition, Indonesia was honored last year to be invited to participate in the French National Day Military Parade (Bastille Day) on July 14, 2025.
