Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry has emphasized that the national jewelry industry continues to show strong market potential amid rising precious metal prices, which have driven increased public interest in gold bullion investment.

In a statement issued on Friday, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the surge in gold bullion prices has indeed boosted public interest in precious metal investments.

“People will continue to buy gold, silver, precious stone, and gemstone jewelry because these products serve two functions, namely as investments and as accessories that can be worn and collected,” the minister said.

Kartasasmita noted that data from the World Gold Council showed global demand for gold bullion rose to 1,402 tons in 2025, an increase of 16 percent from 1,208 tons in the previous year. Meanwhile, gold jewelry consumption in Indonesia declined by 27 percent from 22.8 tons in 2024 to 16.6 tons in 2025.

Nevertheless, he stressed that the decline in consumption has not reduced the jewelry industry’s contribution to the national economy. According to him, the sector remains one of the positive contributors to Indonesia’s trade balance.

“The jewelry industry continues to make a significant contribution to Indonesia’s trade balance, as reflected in the cumulative export value of jewelry and valuable goods, which rose significantly by 64.72 percent in 2025. The value increased from US$5.5 billion in 2024 to US$9.1 billion in 2025,” he said.

Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) and the National Industrial Information System (SIINas), Indonesia has 539 jewelry industry business units, comprising 49 large-scale industries, 79 medium-scale industries, and 411 small-scale industries. The sector also employs 21,116 workers across various regions.

The government is also actively facilitating promotions, exhibitions, technical guidance, export workshops, and the Domestic Product Utilization Improvement Program (P3DN) for small and medium jewelry industry players.
