The message was conveyed by Supriyadi, the Religious Affairs Ministry’s director general of Buddhism, during the Vesak Day celebration at the Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Sunday.
He referred to Buddhist teachings which state that happiness can be achieved when humans live without hostility, even in an environment still marked by conflict and differences.
"Truly, we are blessed to live without hostility among those who are hostile," he said.
He also urged Buddhists to be moderate individuals, able to maintain inner stability and maintain a strong attitude in facing the various dynamics of life.
With their serenity and wisdom, he continued, Buddhists are expected to become an oasis of tranquility for their surrounding communities while also playing an active role in strengthening social harmony.
Through the spirit of Vesak, the values of love, tolerance, and peace are expected to continue to be instilled so that Buddhists can become pioneers in creating a peaceful and harmonious life within society, Supriyadi concluded.
