Pancasila is a guideline for governing our national life, social life, and state affairs,Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said on Monday that Indonesia has a strong guiding principle in Pancasila as it navigates growing global uncertainty marked by geopolitical tensions, trade disputes and economic challenges.
Speaking at the 2026 Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony at the Pancasila Building in Jakarta on Monday, Prabowo emphasized that Pancasila is more than a historical document or a slogan recited during official ceremonies.
“Pancasila is a guideline for governing our national life, social life, and state affairs, including how we build our national economic system,” he said.
He noted that Pancasila emerged from Indonesia’s own historical journey, experiences, culture, and aspirations.
“Pancasila is a great national consensus, an agreement that enables our nation, comprising thousands of islands, hundreds of ethnic groups, hundreds of languages, and diverse culture, to live together as one nation,” he said.
Prabowo said this year's Pancasila Day theme, “Pancasila Unites the Nation, Foundation of World Peace,” carries profound significance amid the various global challenges and uncertainties facing the world today.
He said the annual commemoration serves as a moment to remember the origins of Indonesia's founding ideology, noting that 81 years ago Indonesia's first president, Soekarno, presented the concept of Pancasila before a preparatory committee for independence.
“Today, we commemorate the 81st anniversary of the birth of Pancasila. Eighty-one years ago, Bung Karno stood before the session of the Investigating Committee for Preparatory Work for Indonesian Independence and presented the great idea that later became the philosophical foundation of the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo said.
