Batam (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Migrant Workers Protection Minister Mukhtarudin inaugurated a migrant worker protection helpdesk at the Batam Center International Ferry Terminal in Riau Islands on Tuesday.

He said the facility was established to strengthen services and protection for migrant workers, particularly in border areas that serve as major transit points.

Mukhtarudin urged Indonesians seeking jobs abroad to use official channels through the ministry, its regional offices, or companies registered in the government's migrant worker information system.

The helpdesk will provide information services, overseas job placement consultations, document verification, and departure monitoring.

According to local migrant worker protection center head Imam Riyadi, the facility will also help prevent migrant workers from becoming victims of human trafficking.

Riau Islands currently has additional migrant worker helpdesks at Harbour Bay, Sri Bintan Pura, and Karimun Port.
