Speaking during his annual state address at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta, Prabowo emphasized that early childhood is the optimal time for language acquisition.
"We will introduce foreign languages to first-grade elementary students—they must start learning early," Prabowo said.
"Our children must have access to top-tier education so that when they enter the job market, they possess superior skills that allow them to work anywhere."
Prabowo outlined a broad list of target languages, including English, Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, and Russian, noting Russia's strong standing in science and technology.
According to the president, children under the age of 11 or 12 absorb languages much faster, making primary education the ideal starting point.
The policy initiative comes as several foreign leaders have approached Indonesia to recruit workers for sectors such as tourism, healthcare, nursing, and caregiving—roles that require foreign language proficiency.
Prabowo added that combining early language skills with the natural resilience and hospitality of the Indonesian workforce will make the country's labor force highly competitive internationally while driving domestic economic growth through remittances and global integration.
