Rangkasbitung’s volume is nearly the same as Bekasi,Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI Group, is strengthening infrastructure and service capacity on its Green Line commuter rail network as passenger volumes continue to rise.
KAI Group Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said here Friday that expanding capacity toward Rangkasbitung has become increasingly important as passenger demand on the route grows rapidly.
“If we look at the Cikarang Line and Rangkasbitung, their contributions are now almost neck and neck. Rangkasbitung’s volume is nearly the same as Bekasi,” she said.
The Bogor Line still accounts for the largest share of commuter passengers, at 43.9 percent, down from about 60 percent previously as ridership on other routes has increased.
The Cikarang and Bekasi lines account for 24.7 percent of passengers, while the Rangkasbitung Line’s share has reached 22.5 percent, Anne said.
The increase in ridership is prompting KAI to strengthen Green Line infrastructure, including expanding power capacity and increasing each trainset to 12 cars.
“We conducted a trial of the 12-car configuration yesterday, but there are still infrastructure preparations needed before capacity can grow again,” Anne said.
Anne said increasing commuter capacity depends not only on reducing intervals between services, known as headway, but also on the passenger capacity of each trainset.
KAI has previously expanded trainsets from four cars to eight, then 10, and is now working toward a 12-car configuration to accommodate rising demand.
Beyond station infrastructure, KAI is also preparing additional rolling stock to support Green Line services, with a total target of 36 trainsets.
