Meteorology Office of Cilacap noted cyclone Vince which has emerged since Wednesday (12/1) in Indian Ocean of south Java Island (870 kilometers southwest of Cilacap) moves to east, a weather analyst said here Friday.
"Based on our observation, at 7.00 am the position of Vince was at 16.3 degrees southern latitude and 112.5 degrees eastern longitude or about 890 kilometers south to southwest of Denpasar. The weather phenomenon headed to the east, away from Indonesia at a speed of 11 knots or 20 kilometers per hour," Teguh Wardoyo, a weather analyst at the Cilacap meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency, said here Friday.
According to him, the cyclone`s movements caused the wind to blew at a maximum speed of 40 knots (75 km/hour).
Teguh said Vince`s position on Saturday (15/1) at 7.00 am Indonesian Western Time would be at 15.7 degrees southern latitude and 114 eastern longitude (780 kilometers south of Denpasar) with the speed of the wind would be at 30 knots (55 km/hour).
While on Sunday (16/1) at the same time, the cyclone was predicted at the 15.2 southern latitude and 112.9 eastern longitude with 30 knots (55 km/hour), he added.
"On Monday (17/1) at 7.00 am, it will be at the 16.4 southern latitude and 109.6 eastern longitude with the wind will blow at 25 knots speed (45 km/hour)," he said.
However, he said, the cyclone Vince was affected on the wave height at southern waters of Central Java although it declined.
He said the height of maximum wave at the southern waters of Central Java on Saturday (15/1) would be at around four to five meters with the speed of wind at 25 to 60 km/hour from southwest to northwest.
Moreover, he added, the wave height on the coasts was predicted at one to four meters with 25 to 55 km/hour speed of wind and in Indian Ocean was about two to five meters height with 35 to 60 km/hour speed.
"The condition is dangerous for shipping activity. Therefore, we urge all cruise operators to beware against the possibility of high wave during the voyage," he said.
According to him, the existence of cyclone Vince had an effect on the weather conditions causing low precipitation fell in Central Java and Yogyakarta.
