Sampang, E Java (ANTARA News) - Sampang district`s police in Madura island, East Java, have questioned three witnesses regarding the mutilation of a two-year-old toddler here on Friday evening.

"We have been questioned three witnesses for investigating this case. All have familial relationship," Sampang district police`s spokesman, Adjunct Commissioner Supriyono, said.

The witnesses were identified as the dead Dafan`s grandmother, Hajah Subaidah, his brother Abdul Fatah, and his uncle, Hoiri, he said.

The mutilated dead body of a toddler was found in a sack on Friday evening, Chief of Sampang district police`s detective unit, Adjunct Commissioner Ipal Faruq said.

The two-year-old Dafan, whose parents were from Pangarengan village, Pangarengan subdistrict, Sampang district, East Java, might have been killed by his uncle, he said.

Dafan, son of Mohammad Shaleh and Juhairiyah, was mutilated by his own uncle who likely suffered from mental illness, the chief of Sampang district police`s detective unit said.

Dafan`s body was firstly discovered by Hoiri, the killer`s brother, inside a coverage sack, he said.

Hoiri then told about his finding to the ill-fated toddler`s mother, Juhairiyah, he said.

She was heavily shocked by Hoiri`s finding, and she could not stop screaming when looking at her son`s mutilated body, he said.

As a result, some of her neighbors came to the mourning house to find out what happened, while some others reported the murder case to local police, he said.

The policemen found a wood log used by the suspect for chopping the ill-fated toddler, he said.

"At that time, the mutilated body has been brought to Sampang general hospital for autopsy to back up the police investigation," he said. (*)
